During a recent visit to the esteemed Château Margaux, I was warmly welcomed in a manner that perfectly reflects the authenticity, simplicity, and quality of the Margaux region and the Médoc. This visit was part of my ongoing commitment to provide top-tier wine tasting and learning experiences at Grand Cru Wine Tasting Paris.
Having visited thousands of vineyards both in France and abroad, I have developed a keen eye for the nuances of winemaking. Château Margaux, under the stewardship of the current family, exemplifies a deep respect for tradition while embracing modern winemaking techniques. Their commitment to quality and adherence to the Château’s values is palpable.
The wines of Château Margaux are a testament to this balanced approach. They are refined, unpretentious, and silky, offering a complexity that is hard to surpass, especially among similar grape varieties. This visit reaffirmed my choice to select the 2011 vintage for the premium wine tasting services offered at Grand Cru Wine Tasting Paris. The 2011 vintage, although low in volume, stands out for its exquisite balance and elegance. (99/100 by AlexandrePetit.com)
During my visit, I was particularly impressed by the on-site research laboratory, reflecting the Château’s dedication to innovation and excellence. The careful division of harvests into more than a hundred parcels, each managed in separate vats, speaks to the meticulous approach to winemaking. This complex assemblage process is managed with exceptional skill, continuing a 350-year tradition of excellence.
I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Corinne Mentzelopoulos, who has recently retired after 43 years at the helm of the Château. Warm wishes go to Alexis Leven-Mentzelopoulos, who steps in as the new General Manager, and Alexandra Petit-Mentzelopoulos, the new Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board. Their leadership ensures the continued legacy of this prestigious estate.
The Margaux appellation and the Premier Grands Crus Classés of the 1855 classification, represented so admirably by this golden family, continue to showcase France’s finest wines to the world, maintaining their status as some of the best wines globally.
